About Me

Giovanni Felicioni is a certified Rolfer, Rolf Movement Practitioner and a Yoga Teacher.  He has been practicing as a bodyworker in London and abroad for the past 19 years.  Giovanni teaches on the European Rolfing Faculty, trains Yoga Teachers, runs a practice in London and teaches workshops and retreats internationally.

As a bodyworker Giovanni’s interests lie where human wellbeing and the ordinary movements of everyday life meet our capacity for the dynamic of contemplation. And where the process of structural and movement integration, brought about through appropriate use of touch and language, meets the person’s own process of coming to a deeper and broader awareness of self and others.

About Me

Angie Webber first became interested in the structure and function of the human body and its links to mental and emotional wellbeing during her yoga teacher training in 1999.

She was later introduced to Rolfing Structural Integration and went on to train at the Rolf Institutes in Munich and Sydney, graduating in 2005 as a Certified Rolfer and Rolf Movement Practitioner.

In her practice Angie sees clients who come for varying reasons, from those who wish to address structural issues with their related tensions and pains, to those who wish to experience the ten series. She is inspired by Rolfing and the way it enables clients to become so in-tune and aware of their physical body as it responds to sensitive intervention coupled with the client’s perceptive co-ordination of breath and movement; how this awareness translates into everyday life and how the treatment helps clients access deeper aspects of their being.

She is constantly challenged and constantly learning from the process.

Andrea is a certified Rolfer, she qualified in 2010 at the European Rolfing Institute.

Her interest in this work originates simply from a passion for movement and alongside Rolfing she continues her work as a dance performer, maker and teacher.

Rolfing for Children

Children between the ages of five and 16 are now reportedly spending an average of six-and-a-half hours a day in front of screens.   While there has been significant research into the emotional and psychological effects, there has not been a great amount of attention paid to the physical effects – aside from the neurological and particularly the over stimulation of the mind.

Rolfing UK has found that there really isn’t a huge amount of public awareness as to the impact of our high tech lives on our children’s structural development and specifically their posture

Advanced Certified Rolfer Alan Richardson recently shared a testimonial from a parent who found Rolfing very beneficial for her 12-year old son, Joey. His mum was a professional ballet dancer and she became increasingly frustrated at Joey’s poor posture resulting from too much time spent in front of screens.  Joey refused to attend ballet or yoga classes and his mum was tired of nagging.  Then Joey’s grandmother shared an article about Rolfing in ‘The Dancing Times’ recommending it as a very successful in realigning children’s posture.  Here you can read about how Rolfing really benefited Joey, not just in terms of improving his posture and balance, but also boosting his confidence and self-esteem.

Our mission at Rolfing UK is to build greater awareness as to the health benefits of Rolfing Structural Integration to the wider public.   While Rolfing is well known in professional dancing and sports circles, we recognise it still isn’t widely known just how beneficial the method can be for helping children. And yet, the Rolfing® logo that is used worldwide depicts one of Dr Rolf’s most famous cases, that of a four-year-old boy, Tim Barrett, who was diagnosed with Leggs-Perthes disease in 1959.

An orthopaedic childhood condition, Leggs-Perthes presents in limited movement in the hip joint, knee pain, and limping. Doctor’s advised Tim’s mother to put him in a cast for five years and the prognosis was that Tim would be in a wheelchair by the age of 20.  Dr Rolf believed she could help Tim without having him put into a cast and she worked on him for several months. Tim grew up without any handicaps and went onto to enjoy a healthy life in Hawaii where he became a keen surfer.

Rolfing for Arthritic Hip Joints by Keith Graham

Certified Advanced Rolfer & Rolf Movement practitioner, Keith Graham, shares this interesting case study where he has helped a woman with arthritis.

Keith reports:

Phyllis first came to me in early 2014 for help with her arthritic hip pain, her main goal being to avoid the hip surgery that her medical consultant was recommending.

I initially took Phyllis through the first six sessions of the classic Rolfing ten series and then with some small improvement in her overall flexibility, my client decided to take a break. Six weeks later Phyllis resumed Rolfing treatments with me; she had decided that of all the therapies that she had tried, Rolfing had produced the best results.

We continued for another 13 sessions during which time, my overall goal was to keep the whole body aligned and balanced in gravity while continuing to gradually break down fascial layers in the pelvis and legs, using Rolfing connective tissue manipulation until I could reach the deep adhesions surrounding the hip joint.

One of the major challenges to overcome when someone has been in pain for a long time is habitual muscle tightening around the damaged joint. This is caused by the nervous system’s fight or flight response and I have found that a combination of MET (muscle energy techniques), Neuromodulation therapy and gentle Rolf Movement is very effective in calming this automatic response. The result was that Phyllis began to experience significantly less pain and a more normal range of movement of the femur in the hip joint.

Having made steady progress during this second series, the rate of improvement again reached a plateau.  At this point, it seemed sensible to take another break.

We resumed work in early 2015, and over the first few months of the year made several significant breakthroughs, with marked improvement in Phyllis’ range of movement and further reduction of pain levels.

This has been a very interesting and enlightening experience for me as a practitioner.  It has shown, as Ida Rolf demonstrated, that although for most, the classic ten hours of Rolfing can bring remarkable changes to alignment, range of movement and mental/emotional outlook, for clients with more complex issues, the method can still be effective but more time is needed.

Admittedly, this has been an exceptionally long treatment period taking perhaps 30 hours to achieve the desired results. Weighed against this however my client now has a better posture, is out of pain and has achieved her goal which was to avoid hip surgery.

I am enormously grateful to my client for her faith in both Rolfing and me, for her persistence and for her generous financial commitment to the process.

We are now working patiently with an arthritic shoulder, and with only occasional work on her hips, they remain pain-free and mobile.
